What's new about the student accused of killing a teacher

A student who is accused of murdering a teacher is facing a confrontation in court. Bafana Mahungela who is accused of murdering a Johannesburg teacher, Kirsten Kluyts, appeared before the Magistrate's Court in Alexandra, Gauteng, with a request for bail.

This 21-year-old student, we heard in court that he is facing a charge of rape as he was charged with a planned crime of killing the teacher who was part of the MyRun running competition, in George Lea Park, at the end of October, his body was found on the edge of the park. Bafana is currently facing charges of rape, robbery and brutal murder.

The suspect, who is a student at Varsity College in Sandton, entered the witness box on Wednesday as his bail application continued. He told the court that he was shocked by his arrest in this case because he informed people when he saw a person lying in the park but did not know that he was dead. He said that this case shocked his family as there were news that his mother had a heart attack when she heard that he was arrested for murder.

His lawyer, Adv Itumeleng Masako, said that they were not told about the additional charges and that the murder charge has been changed to premeditated murder. The hearing of the bail application was adjourned to the 18th after the lawyers asked to see the video that was presented by the State as evidence concerning the suspect.
